KPD and FBI Investigating West Knoxville Bank Robbery

UPDATE (August 13, 2024, 2:50 p.m.): The suspect from Monday’s robbery at the Truist Bank on Kingston Pike has been identified as Steve Herman, 54 of Knoxville. Herman was taken into custody at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday following a joint KPD and FBI investigation. Herman has been charged federally for bank robbery and possession of a firearm during a violent offense.

Herman was identified in part through tips submitted to East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers. A total of 26 tips were submitted through Crime Stoppers in regards to the bank robbery.

UPDATE (August 12, 2024, 2:45 p.m.): Below are photos of the suspect from the bank robbery that happened this afternoon at the Truist Bank at 4931 Kingston Pike. The suspect left the scene on foot. Anyone who sees him should call 9-1-1. Anybody with information concerning his identity or whereabouts is urged to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

The Knoxville Police Department and Knoxville Field Office of the FBI are jointly investigating a bank robbery that happened on Monday afternoon in West Knoxville.

At around 1:15 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024, KPD officers were dispatched to a robbery that occurred at the Truist Bank at 4931 Kingston Pike.

Officers learned that a white male who was armed with a handgun entered the bank and handed a note to the teller demanding cash. The teller complied with the demands and the suspect left the scene on foot, traveling eastbound.

Efforts are ongoing to identify and locate the suspect. The investigation is in the early stages at this time. An update will be provided as it becomes available.
